CLEC People - March 8, 2001Wayne KawamotoManaging Editor, CLEC-Planet Birch Telecom promoted Robert Moretti and Lynne Sangimino to oversee the company's expansion into BellSouth territory. Moretti has been named vice president of sales for the Southeast Region and will be responsible for managing Birch's rollout and growth in four states. The company announced in January that it will open sales offices in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee during 2001. Sangimino, named vice president for the Central Region, will oversee Birch's sales efforts in Tennessee and three Southwestern Bell states -- Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma. Charlie Fuller remains vice president for the Southern Region (Texas). Sangimino was promoted to her prior position as general manager for Kansas City, Mo.; Topeka, Kan.; and St. Joseph, Mo., in January of last year. Prior to joining Birch, Sangimino spent 12 years in sales, sales management and operations at Sprint in the Kansas City area. She has a bachelor's degree in mass communications from Kansas State University. Moretti brings 20 years of sales experience to his new position, including vice president and general manager posts with technology companies in Dallas, Texas, and 12 years at Pitney Bowes. He moves to his current position in Atlanta from his responsibilities as a division general manager for Birch in Dallas. As part of Copper Mountain Networks' restructuring plans, the company announced that Joseph Markee, currently Chairman and General Manager of the Public Network Business Unit, and John Creelman, the company's Chief Financial Officer, have resigned to pursue other opportunities. Markee will continue to serve on the Board of Directors. Rick Gilbert, President and Chief Executive Officer, will assume the role of Chairman of the Board, President, and Chief Executive Officer. Steven Hunt, previously Vice President of Engineering, will assume the position of General Manager of the Public Network Business Unit, and Michael Staiger, previously Vice President of Business Development, will assume the position of Chief Financial Officer. These transitions are expected to be completed by the end of March 2001. Broadview Networks announced that David R. Thomas, a 24-year industry veteran, has been appointed executive vice president, sales. He is based at the company's headquarters in New York City. Thomas, 47, joined Broadview Networks in December 1999 as vice president, new market development. In that position, his accomplishments included planning and leading the company's introduction of high-speed Internet service, using digital subscriber line (DSL) technology, throughout its market footprint. In his new assignment, Thomas is responsible for all Broadview Networks sales activities, spanning business and residential customers, data and voice services, direct and indirect channels, and the company's entire service area. Broadview Networks serves New York City, Long Island, Westchester and Rockland counties, Albany, Buffalo and Syracuse, N.Y.; Northern New Jersey; and the Boston and Philadelphia areas. Before joining Broadview Networks, Thomas established sales teams and opened markets for three national communications companies. In his previous position, as AT&T vice president of local services, he formed and headed a sales force of nearly 1,000 people. Prior to AT&T's acquisition of Teleport Communications Group (TCG) in 1998, Thomas was national vice president for the western region of TCG, helping that company develop into one of the largest U.S.-based integrated communications providers. Before that, he created a Midwest sales and marketing presence for LCI International as regional vice president of sales. Thomas, who majored in business administration at Wayne State University, began his career as a national account manager for Michigan Bell and Ameritech, responsible for the Ford Motor Company account. COLO.COM has named Ira S. Morris president of COLO.WEST. Morris will oversee all Sales efforts for COLO.WEST Neutral Optical Hubs, including systems engineering and customer service. COLO.WEST is comprised of Denver, Las Vegas, Phoenix, San Diego, Irvine, Los Angeles, San Francisco Bay Area, Seattle, Bothell and Beaverton. Morris brings more than 25 years of experience in the telecommunications industry, including six years with TCG (now AT&T Local Services) and 15 years with AT&T, and has held senior positions in operations, network deployment, construction, sales, marketing and business development, and IT. Morris joins COLO.COM from FastPoint Communications, a Los Angeles based ISP and reseller of DSL service, where he served as president and CEO. Previously, he was co-founder, president and COO of Telepacific Communications, a switch based CLEC focusing on the Western United States, where he developed and built the company into a $40 million a year, 80-person operation with services in California and Nevada. |
