CLEC People - March 15, 2001Wayne KawamotoManaging Editor, CLEC-Planet Telephone and Data Systems announced the appointment of Michael D. Bills to its Board of Directors. Bills will stand for election by owners of TDS Common Shares at the company's Annual Meeting of Shareholders, currently planned May 17, 2001. Bills, 43, has been associated with Goldman, Sachs & Company and with Tiger Management, a prominent New York City based money management firm. He is currently a professor of finance at the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia. Mr. Bills holds a BA from the University of Virginia and a MBA in finance from Columbia University. Bills is filling a vacancy created when Murray L. Swanson stepped down from TDS's Board of Director's in May 2000. Mindspeed Technologies, the Internet infrastructure business of Conexant Systems, announced the appointment of two senior executives: Wayne Nesbit, 40, will become senior vice president of Mindspeed operations and Simon Biddiscombe, 33, will become vice president and corporate controller. Nesbit will report to Mindspeed chief executive officer, Raouf Halim, and Biddiscombe will report to chief financial officer, Bala Iyer. Nesbit will be responsible for directing Mindspeed's foundry operations, quality and supply chain management. With more than 17 years semiconductor industry experience, Nesbit joins Mindspeed from Motorola, where he served as vice president and director of Worldwide External Technology. Nesbit received a bachelor of science degree in engineering from Texas A&M University. Biddiscombe will be responsible for all controllership activities for Mindspeed, including accounting, financial planning and analysis. Prior to joining Mindspeed, Biddiscombe was senior vice president, chief financial officer and chief operating officer at Wyle Electronics. His responsibilities included overseeing the sale of Wyle Electronics, setting and driving the company's strategy, and creating a new e-business function. Biddiscombe received a degree in business studies from Polytechnic of Wales and he is a Chartered Accountant. NOMADIX, a supplier of Internet infrastructure, announced that it has named Richard E. Kemple chief executive officer. Kemple, an industry professional with a track record at Xerox and US West, will assume the position immediately. Spending more than 25 years in leading technology and telecommunications companies, Kemple brings broad management experience, understanding of telecommunications markets and sales success. Kemple created and managed new, entrepreneurial business units at US West and Xerox and was instrumental in the build-out of a national CLEC. At US West, he turned a fledgling "out of region" data local exchange carrier (DLEC) business doing $18 million in revenue into a viable data communications provider with $256 million in sales in 12 months. At Xerox, he conceived and built a new business unit that captured 90% market share and ramped to more than $100 million in revenues in less than 24 months. Most recently, Kemple was vice president and general manger in charge of all field operations at Urban Media, a national CLEC that wired office buildings for data and voice service. Kemple will succeed Kleinrock, who had been serving as chairman and interim CEO. Kleinrock will continue in his position as the company's chairman. |
