XO Communications (Nasdaq:XOXO) announced that XO Vice Chairman Hank Nothhaft will become CEO and President of SmartPipes, a provider of managed IP services. Nothhaft will remain as an independent director on the XO Board. Additionally, XO is an equity investor in SmartPipes. Prior to becoming XO's Vice Chairman, Nothhaft served as Chairman and CEO of Concentric Networks, a data and Internet Services company that was acquired by XO (then Nextlink) in June of 2000.

NewSouth Communications, a broadband Integrated Communications Provider (ICP) in the South, announced the appointment of James W. Akerhielm as President and Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. With over 15 years of experience, Akerhielm is widely known in the telecommunications industry for his strategic development and leadership skills. Akerhielm's objective is to leverage NewSouth's strong foundation and rapidly accelerate the company's growth in the high-potential Southern markets in which it operates and further establish NewSouth as a profitable leader in the ICP industry. Prior to joining NewSouth, Akerhielm served as President & CEO of Triton Cellular Partners, LP from 1998 to 2000. At Triton, he successfully built the company into the 15th largest cellular carrier in the US, driving annual revenue from zero to over $170 million in less than two years. Triton was sold in 2000 for $1.25 billion. Akerhielm began his career in local telecommunications services at Bell Atlantic Corporation where he worked in a variety of engineering, sales, and operations positions. He moved to Bell Atlantic Mobile Systems in 1993 where he ultimately served as the company's Regional Vice President of the Southeast Region from 1995 to 1998.

Integra Telecom, a provider of integrated communications services to small and midsize businesses, has appointed Dave Lahti to Vice President of Data Operations and Seana Zagar to Director of Data Services Product Development. As Vice President of Data Operations, Lahti will oversee; Internet connectivity, ISP and Web hosting services, managed data services, collocation facilities, ASP services, IT infrastructure, and the network operations center monitoring the company's voice and data networks. Lahti brings more than 22 years of information system, data and network experience, with 20 years in the telecommunications industry. Prior to his promotion, Lahti was Integra's Director of IT Infrastructure. He came to Integra from CNF Transportation where he was Data Center Manager and Network Operations Center Manager. Lahti began his career at Pacific Telecom as a programmer analyst for its Applications group before becoming Manager, Data Center. As Director of Data Services Product Development, Seana Zagar will be responsible for defining Integra's data products, pricing, and supporting distribution of products through existing sales channels. Prior to her promotion, Zagar was Director, Collocation and Hosting for Integra. Zagar brings more than seven years experience in the telecommunications industry
to her role, including several years as an account manager at Sprint and MCI before moving into sales management at Electric Lightwave and Integra Telecom.

Maxcom Telecomunicaciones, S.A. de C.V., a facilities-based telecommunications provider (CLEC) that focuses on small and medium-sized businesses and high-end residential customers in Mexico City and Puebla, announced that Lic. Ricardo Arevalo will join the Company on May 2, 2001 as Chief Information Systems Officer. Arevalo comes to Maxcom with more than 14 years of experience in information systems. More recently and for the last 4 years, Arevalo has served as Vice President for Information Systems and Chief Information Officer at Grupo Iusacell, where he successfully led several projects including billing & customer care systems, network swap, computer telephone integration, ERP implementation as well as developing many in-house solutions. Previously, Arevalo held several managerial positions in the information systems field in companies like AMP., Casa Cuervo and Ponds de Mexico, a subsidiary of Unilever. Arevalo holds a Bachelor degree in Computer Science from the Instituto Tecnologico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, and a Special degree in Marketing from the same institution. He also completed the Advanced Management Program at the Instituto Panamericano de Alta Direccion de Empresas (IPADE). Additionally, the company announced the resignation of Alejandro Martinez as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.
