CLEC People - May 3, 2001Wayne KawamotoManaging Editor, CLEC-Planet Teligent said former AT&T Corp. executive Alex Mandl was no longer its chairman and chief executive. The company said in a statement that Mandl, a one-time president and chief operating officer of AT&T, "will not continue" in the Teligent posts. Yoav Krill, the managing director of IDT Corp.'s European division, was named acting chief executive. IDT Chairman, Chief Executive, and Treasurer Howard Jonas has been elected Teligent's chairman. AT&T Canada, Canada's largest national competitive broadband business services provider, announced the appointments of Stewart A. Berry and Henry C. Yip to the senior executive team of AT&T Canada. In his new role as Executive Vice President, Marketing, Berry is responsible for all aspects of channel marketing, product development, product management, branding, advertising and promotion for AT&T Canada. Berry brings more than 27 years experience in marketing and sales in domestic and international telecommunications for both emerging and established telecommunications companies. Most recently, Berry was Executive Vice President of Marketing and Sales at BCI Commcor, a division of Bell Canada International. He was a founding leader during the start-up of the competitive long distance company Clear Communications, New Zealand's first Competitive Local Exchange Carrier. He has held a series of senior leadership positions at NBTel, Telecom Canada and Bell Canada. Berry studied Economics at Mount Allison University and also received his MBA from Queens University. Yip joins AT&T Canada as Executive Vice President, Network Services. He is responsible for all network operations including network technology direction, network planning, network services and support for customers, and managing the company's network data architecture and databases. Yip was most recently with TELUS Corporation where he held various executive positions in the Operations area and initiated TELUS' multimedia business as well as created an ASP business in the Geomatics area. He has also held managerial positions at Jones Lightwave Ltd. and Bell Canada. Yip is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario with a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering and the Advanced Management Program at the Wharton School of Business. Jazztel plc, a facilities-based telecommunications
and Internet services provider that is constructing a fibre-optic
telecommunications network to be the first nationwide
competitive local exchange carrier (CLEC) in Spain and
Portugal, announced the appointment of Joaquim Molins
to their board of directors. Molins joined Jazztel plc at
the beginning of April 2001 to become president of the
Centro de Calculo de Sabadell (CCS), a subsidiary of Jazztel
dedicated to the integration and development of information
systems for medium-sized businesses. In addition he has
taken on the position as President of Jazztel in Cataluna.
Prior to this position, Molins was president of the CiU in
the Barcelona city council and was a member of the CDC
Executive Committee and Secretariat, from 1981 and from 1990
respectively. Since his entrance into the world of politics
in 1975, he has held various positions of responsibility,
such as commercial, consumer and tourism advisor for the
Catalunian Government (from 1988 until 1993). Furthermore,
he was the primary spokesman for CiU in the parliamentary
congress from 1995 until 2000. Among his elected roles,
Molins served as a delegate in the Spanish Parliament for
four terms, a delegate in the Catalunian Parliament, for two
terms, and town councillor for Barcelona in the current term
of office. Molins holds an industrial engineering degree
from the Escuela Tecnica Superior in Barcelona and a masters
degree in Economics and Management from IESE. |
