CLEC People - May 18, 2001Wayne KawamotoManaging Editor, CLEC-Planet Under its current restructuring (related story), Network Access Solutions (NAS) announced several board and management changes. President and chief operating officer, Nick Williams, has left the company to pursue other interests. Stephen Aust has been promoted from executive vice president of business operations to chief operating officer. Ned Scherer, Stephen Aust and Bill Smedburg will join the NAS Board of Directors effective immediately. They will replace Nick Williams, Robert Nicholson and Dennis Patrick. NewSouth Communications Corp. appointed Philip Jenkins as Vice President of Network Operations. An industry veteran with over 23 years of experience in telecommunications, Jenkins will manage all activities and personnel associated with maintaining NewSouth's nine-state network of Lucent Technologies AnyMedia 5ESS-2000 and Cisco BPX 8680 switches. In addition to overseeing NewSouth's network, Jenkins will also lend his expertise to the company's installation process, striving to improve NewSouth's customer care. Prior to joining Newsouth Communications, Jenkins served as Vice President of Engineering for Edge Connections. NuVox Communications, a facilities-based

Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer (CIO). CoreComm Limited (NASDAQ: COMM) announced that, based on its ongoing effort to sharpen its focus on its most profitable customer segments, it was taking certain actions to reorganize, re-size and reduce operating costs for the entire company. Thomas Gravina, formerly Senior Vice President of the company's business division, has been promoted to Chief Operating Officer for the corporation, reporting directly to Barclay Knapp, Chief Executive Officer. In his new position, Gravina will be responsible for day-to-day management of the Company's consumer, business and Internet divisions in their entirety. nii communications, a provider of integrated telecommunications products and services for small businesses, announced that it's president and CEO, Richard Burk, has been unanimously elected as Vice Chairman of the CompTel Board of Directors Avista Corp.'s (NYSE: AVA) board of directors has elected Gary G. Ely as chairman of the board. Ely retains his titles of president and chief executive officer of Avista and succeeds Larry A. Stanley as board chairman. Stanley retires after having served on the Avista board since 1991 and as non-executive chairman of the board since last November. Ely, 53, was named president and chief executive officer of Avista in November 2000, after briefly serving as acting president and CEO. Previously, he held the position of executive vice president of Avista Corp. Ely has been with Avista for 34 years. During recent months, he has played a key role in helping Avista Utilities regain its financial strength and has developed a long-term strategy that is allowing Avista to work through the complex power issues that have had a dramatic impact on western power markets. Ely also led the strong financial turnaround of the company's unregulated Avista Energy unit. Since joining the company in 1967, Ely has been involved in every aspect of the company's business, including engineering, operations, marketing, natural gas systems and supply, hydro operations, transmission and generation engineering, and rate and regulatory relations. He is a graduate of Brigham Young University. |
