US LEC Corp. (Nasdaq: CLEC), announced that Frank J. Jules (45), a 20-year telecom veteran, has been named chief executive officer to succeed company co-founder Tansukh V. Ganatra, who is retiring December 31, 2001. Jules has been elected to the US LEC board of directors, and Ganatra will remain on the board of directors and as a consultant to the company. In commenting on the announcement, US LEC's chairman and co-founder, Richard T. Aab, stated, "We are very pleased to name Frank Jules as chief executive officer to succeed Mr. Ganatra. Frank is a former president of SBC/Ameritech Business Communication Services organizations, during which time he was responsible for approximately $5 billion in annual revenue from over one million business customers of data and voice services. Mr. Jules most recently was named president and CEO of Winstar Communications Inc. and was responsible for all operations and financing during the company's difficult Chapter 11 processes. Frank brings valuable assets of vast experience from within the established RBOC and emerging competitive environments and a proven track record in setting and achieving strategic objectives. His strong expertise in marketing, sales, finance, and operations will complement our solid technical foundation and operating teams and bring a fresh perspective to US LEC as we challenge the established Telcos for market share and position the company for the future."

The Association for Local Telecommunications Services has announced the appointment of Roscoe C. Young as the new chairman of the organization's executive committee. Young is the president and COO of Bedminster, N.J.-based KMC Telecom Holdings Inc. Dan Moffat, president and CEO of Vancouver, Wash.-based data CLEC New Edge Networks, formerly the second vice chair, becomes first vice chair. Robert Taylor, president and CEO of Chicago-based CLEC Focal Communications, who served as ALTS' chair for the past two years, will become executive vice chair. Also, ALTS announced that the contract for ALTS President John Windhausen Jr. has been extended for two additional years.
