Converged Services in One Switch

Oresis says its ISIS-700 carrier-class multiservice switch now offers circuit and packet-switched voice services in an integrated platform, made possible by interoperability with Taqua's OCX convergence switch.

Oresis Communications, Inc., a developer of carrier-class switching products, announced Class 4 and Class 5 softswitch interoperability between its ISIS-700 Integrated OmniService Switch and Taqua's OCX Class 5 convergence switch.

According to Oresis, this positions the ISIS-700 as the industry's first carrier-class multiservice switch that offers circuit and packet-switched voice services, as well as data and Internet services, in a single, integrated switching platform. As a result, the ISIS-700's integrated softswitch capabilities should enable carriers and service providers to support tandem voice switching in addition to data and Internet services from a single, carrier-class switching platform.

The company says that the ISIS-700 offers a wide range of voice services including Circuit Emulation, InterMachine Trunks (IMTs) with SS7 signaling, Voice-over-ATM (VoATM), Voice-over-IP (VoIP) and voice trunking over ATM utilizing the ISIS-700's high-performance/high-reliability integrated signaling and interworking engine: an integrated tandem softswitch.

Also, the range of data services includes Frame Relay, Cell Relay, IP and Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP).

The ISIS-700 is designed to support any type of service offering on any bandwidth from DS-0 to DS-3. This range should provide carriers with the flexibility to provision a variety of services, onsite or remotely, on any port in near real time, based on market demand.

Additionally, the ISIS-700 CORBA-based element management and Java-based OmniManager is designed to provide an open and scalable framework that can be easily integrated into a service provider's existing operation support systems.

"The ISIS-700 gives service providers the flexibility, operational efficiency, and carrier-grade reliability they need to implement a network optimized for converged traffic and enhanced services." said Christin Flynn of The Yankee Group. "The ISIS-700 also integrates both the media gateway and tandem softswitch functionality into a single, carrier-grade switching platform, with open, standards-based interfaces to other network elements."

"The ISIS-700 enables an ISP to evolve from a data (only) service provider to an integrated communication provider offering Internet, local voice, and long distance services," said Jeff VanZwol, Director of Product Marketing for Oresis. "The ISIS-700 supports the delivery of both voice and data services with unprecedented capital and operational efficiencies. Not only does the ISIS-700 allow an ISP to offer existing services more cost-effectively, but it allows an ISP to branch into new markets that they do not traditionally serve."

"Oresis is committed to offering its customers best-in-class voice and data switching capabilities in an integrated carrier-class system which enables an easy and seamless transition to their next generation networks," said Ali Sarabi, president and CEO of Oresis Communications.

"The ISIS-700 Integrated OmniService Switch delivers unparalleled performance, reliability and scalability while being interoperable with a carrier's current infrastructure. By offering customers an integrated voice and data switching solution, the ISIS-700 reduces network provisioning time, training costs, as well as maintenance time-enabling faster time-to-market and better operational efficiencies."

Availability and pricing
Trials of the first release are complete and the ISIS-700 will be available this month. List pricing starts at $100,000 for common equipment. A fully loaded system can cost up to $1 million.
