As of March 19, 2002, there were approximately 20 ISPs licensed to operate
in Jordan, of which at least 10 were active.
Since many subscribers use prepaid Internet cards instead of signing up for
dialup contracts, subscriber numbers in Jordan can fluctuate rapidly. Several
ISPs claimed higher subscriber counts based on sales of prepaid cards, but those
numbers were not confirmed.
The Jordanian population is young (see CIA stats below), and ISPs therefore
expect rapid subscriber growth in the future.
There are no reliable numbers for subscribers to DSL or wireless Internet
services in Jordan.
GlobalOne's network was recently purchased by Equant.
link-net has just opened in Jordan, but it is a promising ISP because it is
already Egypt's largest.
