In 1991 McLeod Telecom made its debut in Iowa. In 1996 it became McLeod, Inc., a publisher known for producing the McLeod Yellow Pages. Then McLeod added direct marketing and telemarketing services to its mix and re-named the company McLeodUSA.

Current Network Maps

Along the way, the company completed a series of acquisitions, including Houston-based Splitrock Services, which remains its facility-based data center that allows McLeodUSA to sell access providers a variety of wholesale services.

Today, McLeod's Internet Service Provider programs include colocation, PRI-ISDN, local access and private line services. By the end of 2001, McLeodUSA will operate more the 30,000 route miles of fiber optic network spanning the nation connecting through more than 395 Points-of-Presence, allowing it to offer local dialup Internet access in more than 900 U.S. cities.

McLeodUSA Colocation Services provide ISPs and enterprise clients with private, secure floor space, 24-hour access, as well as all the bells and whistles that typically comes with supported bandwidth services. The company's Local Access Facilities program offers ISPs the opportunity to tap into McLeodUSA's intra-city local networks within 108 cities in 17 states over its fiber optic SONET-based backbone.

McLeodUSA provides customized services for ISPs that secure private line services from its Wholesale Services division. Both technical and customer support is available, but technical support representatives are on-call around the clock.
